The Arts Society Oxford (TASO) is a two session Society. This means our lecture programme is repeated by running it once in the morning and then again in the afternoon.

Lectures are generally held on the second Wednesday of each month from September to June at Magdalen College.  The morning session starts at 11 am and the afternoon session starts at 2 pm.  We have coffee and tea available before each session.

When you join the Society, you join either as a morning member or as an afternoon member.  Members must attend the session to which they belong.  Because of the limited number of seats in the hall, we cannot accommodate members who wish to switch for individual lectures, except in exceptional circumstances when arrangements have been made in advance with the Membership Secretary.

Our membership subscription is £45 for the 2022/23 Society year which runs from September.  If you use internet or telephone banking, your subscription can be paid by direct bank transfer.  This helps the Society as it saves bank charges.  If you cannot pay by direct bank transfer, you can pay your subscription by cheque.

TASO members automatically become members of the national organisation and receive the quarterly magazine where national and regional study days and trips are advertised, along with feature articles on arts-related topics. TASO is a registered charity and it helps the Society if you are able and willing to sign a Gift Aid declaration. You can do this if you are a UK taxpayer.

In addition to the lecture programme, members are welcome to attend our social events, visitsstudy days and also Wyvern Area study days. Extra charges apply for these additional events.

Our aim is to run an active, stimulating and sociable arts Society.

At present, our membership is full, but we do operate a waiting list (please see below).

Waiting List

The Arts Society Oxford has currently reached capacity with a thriving membership of over 500. We do maintain a waiting list for membership, and a new person joining now should expect to wait one to two years for membership.

Being on the waiting list allows you to:

    • receive information by email about lectures and some of our other activities;
    • attend ONE lecture a year subject to availability. The suggested donation made by guests is £7 per lecture. As places are limited, it is essential to book a place by contacting the Membership Secretary in advance. Contact details are shown below;
    • subject to availability, join our social events, visits, study days, and also Wyvern Area study days, for all of which extra charges are made.

We also maintain a waiting list for morning members wishing to transfer to afternoon membership and vice versa.
