The Arts Society Oxford (TASO) is a two session Society. This means our lecture programme is repeated by running it once in the morning and then again in the afternoon.
Lectures are held monthly from September to June, usually on the second Wednesday of each month at Magdalen College. The morning lecture starts at 11 am and the afternoon lecture at 2 pm. We have coffee and tea available before each lecture.
You join TASO as either a morning member or an afternoon member. Because of the limited number of seats in the lecture hall, we cannot accommodate members who wish to switch morning / afternoon for individual lectures, except in exceptional circumstances agreed in advance with our Membership Secretary.
Our subscription year runs from September. Membership for 2024/25 is £50. If you use internet or telephone banking, your subscription can be paid by direct bank transfer. This helps TASO as it saves bank charges. TASO is a registered charity and it helps the Society if you are able and willing to sign a Gift Aid declaration. You can do this if you are a UK taxpayer.
TASO members automatically become members of the national organisation, The Arts Society, and receive the quarterly magazine, where national and regional study days and trips are advertised, along with feature articles on arts-related topics.
In addition to the lecture programme and social events, TASO also offers visits, study days and Wyvern Area study days. Extra charges apply for these additional events.
Our aim is to run an active, stimulating and sociable arts society.
Waiting List
The Arts Society Oxford has a thriving membership of over 500. Membership is currently full, both for mornings and afternoons. We do have a waiting list for both.
Being on the waiting list allows you to:
- receive information by email about lectures and some of our other activities;
- attend ONE lecture a year subject to availability. The suggested donation made by guests is £7 per lecture. As places are limited, it is essential to book a place by contacting the Membership Secretary in advance. Contact details are shown below;
- subject to availability, join our social events, visits, study days and Wyvern Area study days, for all of which extra charges are made.
We also maintain a waiting list for members wishing to transfer between morning and afternoon membership.
