At TASO we have a wide range of guided trips planned in 2024-2025, including local walks in Oxford, visits further afield, and a residential tour. We will add to the calendar below as visits are scheduled and details confirmed.

If you would like more information, do email us at tasovisits@gmail.com.

We are also always happy to receive your ideas and suggestions for future walks, visits and trips.

Please be aware that Visits Team events work differently to lectures. They are almost always ticketed, there are limited places and there is usually high demand. For these reasons, each event is initially open only to members, then offered to those on the event’s waiting list if there are still places, and only if places remain after that are they offered to non-members.  To book a ticket to a visit, press on “click here” in the visit’s entry in the calendar below.

London – Albert Hall

We are pleased to offer members a unique visit on Monday 27 January to the Royal Albert Hall. A maximum of 40 tickets are available. The visit will be in two parts:

  1. From 12:00-1:00 a general tour of the Hall. You will ‘discover how the building was founded 150 years ago, the royal love story that made it happen, and how we solved one of the UK’s most enduring engineering challenges – the Royal Albert Hall echo. This tour will also include certain behind-the-scenes elements such as the royal areas, including the royal box and entrance’.
  2. From 2:30-3:30 a ‘Behind the Scenes’ tour. This tour is only rarely available and not open to the general public. It will ‘take you under the stage, into the dressing rooms and deep underground into the bustling loading bay’.

Please be aware that there are uneven surfaces on the tour routes and periods of time spent walking and standing.

The cost, excluding travel, will be £35 a head. Members will need to arrange their own travel to the Hall. The nearest tube is South Kensington. No lunch will be provided but members can either have lunch at the Albert Hall café (light bites, sandwiches, pastries, cakes and snacks); or bring their own lunch to eat at the café, providing they buy a drink to consume.

Coventry

Day trip on Tuesday 18 February (by coach) with guided tour of Coventry Cathedral and visit to Herbert Art Gallery. Up to 40 members.

There will be two guided tours of the Cathedral for 20 members per tour. The Cathedral’s guide will lead the group for 1 1/4 hours through the history of the ruins, the blitz and the building of the New Cathedral, and will be happy to answer questions. Whilst one group tours the cathedral, the other will visit the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, which is a few minutes’ walk from the Cathedral. A member of the Visits Team will accompany each group.

Three cafes near the Cathedral will be suggested for lunch. Members will be given details on the bus, including where to catch the return coach.

The planned timings are:

  • Redbridge Park & Ride pick up at 8:30am
  • Oxford Playhouse pick up at 8:50am
  • Water Eaton pick up at 9:10am
  • Arrive at the Cathedral approximately 10:30am.
  • The first Cathedral tour: 11:00am – 12:15pm.
  • The second Cathedral tour: 1:45pm – 3:00pm.
  • There will be 1½ hours of free time at the Cathedral and for lunch
  • Return coach pick up at 3:30pm
  • Arrive in Oxford approximately 6:00pm
